Our readers speak out
A Shining Example
Teaching K-8's March 2003 cover story about Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary School was superb. Ashley River is a shining example of the many excellent public education institutions in South Carolina, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share its success with the rest of the country.
Your publication is a wonderful resource for teachers. From news about grants to "Hot Websites," Teaching K-8 provides information that instructional leaders can really use.

Cutting Remarks
I was the Teaching K-8 Reader Service winner for March 2003. I won a Mark IVtm Die Cutting Machine and dies from Accu-Cut® Systems. I have so many bulletin board, craft and sewing ideas in my head that I don't know where to start! I'm also a Key Volunteer with my son Jim's Marine Reserve unit, and the prize will be great to use for my volunteer activities. I can't believe I won! It has been so exciting. I love the Mark IV Die Cutting Machine. Teaching K-8 has made me a very happy reader! Thank you.

Asking for Ads
I found Dr. John W. Healy's February 2003 column, entitled "Student Advertisers," intriguing. I wonder, however, if the advertisements would have even greater variety if the project was done at home, away from the influence of the students' peers. I'd be interested to hear how Teaching K-8's readers have implemented this assignment and how their students reacted to it.

Author Talk
I've subscribed to Teaching K-8 for many years and have particularly enjoyed the articles on authors and illustrators. As a result of your January 2002 feature on author Joseph Bruchac, his sister presented a state-funded Native American program for teachers and families at the Wenham Museum.

Learning Through Music
As a token of Teaching K-8's appreciation, contributors to the April and May 2003 editions of our "Laugh Lines" column received complimentary copies of the book-and-CD set My Teacher Rides a Harley by Gary Dulabaum. The CD features 16 original songs to use in your classroom. To purchase a copy of My Teacher Rides a Harley, call Maupin House Publishing at 800-524-0634 or visit www.maupinhouse.com.
