Our readers speak out

More "Thinking About Thinking"
I really enjoyed Peter W. Cookson, Jr.'s article, "Thinking About Thinking" (March 2004). It not only showed the importance of thinking about the three parts of intelligence, but also reiterated the known fact that most classroom practices work for some students, but not for all. This article also reinforced the idea that each student has his or her own specific strengths and weaknesses and each learns differently. Teachers need to set and use high expectations for their students and tailor instruction to meet the needs of each individual student, not to make every student the same.

...and additional kudos for our new PD section
I noticed that you had recently added a professional development section to the magazine – what a good idea! It gives the teacher that one-on-one counseling and guidance to enhance job performance.

I am proud to be a subscriber to your magazine. Teaching K-8 has guided educators for many years on this journey of educating our future leaders. Thank you for the support and commitment of your staff to the world of education.

Another Publisher's Memo fan!
I just read two of your Publisher's Memos from the January and April 2004 issues of Teaching K-8 magazine. I greatly enjoyed your pieces. I like the way you have your head and your heart in your writing. You manage to tie personal events to the broader education/life scene in a very warm and intelligent way. I look forward to reading more.

A note of appreciation
I am really impressed with Linda Lindroth's "Technology in Your Classroom" columns. I pass on the tips and websites to my student teachers and also to my Integrating Technology class at Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo, CA. I just wanted Linda to know that she's appreciated.

A happy Lucky Subscriber
Teaching K-8 has very interesting and diverse articles and I've used several ideas from "Your Green Pages." I wanted to thank you also for the incredible Lucky Subscriber gift. One of our primary grade teachers will enjoy and benefit from it.

Diamante? Diamente?
In the May 2004 issue of Teaching K-8, Susan Mandel Glazer spelled the poetry form "diamente" in her article, "Use What You've Got." In May 1969, Iris Tiedt published an article entitled, "A New Poetry Form, The Diamante." I have always followed the spelling of the person who invented the form. Are there two spellings for this poetry form?

From the editorial staff: Ms. Tiedt is exactly right! Good catch. We apologize for any confusion and regret the error.
