My mom and dad got paid yesterday and today we are off to one of my most favorite places in the whole world – the mall.

  1. Once we got to the mall my dad decided it would be easier to park at the mall's parking garage. I saw a sign that said the garage could hold 275 cars. If it costs $1.25 to park for the day and the lot was full, how much money would be taken in by the parking lot attendant?
  2. We talked to the parking garage attendant and he told me that there were 88 spaces on the ground floor, 74 spaces on the second floor, 83 spaces on the third floor and 30 spots on the roof. What is the average number of spaces per floor of the parking garage?
  3. We started our mall adventure at the food court. My dad had Chinese food for $4.43. My mom had two tacos at $.69 and a cola for $.99. My little brother had one slice of pizza for $1.89 and chocolate milkshake for $1.49. I had two hamburgers at $1.12 each, a large order of fries for $1.09 and a cola for $.99. How much did we spend including a 6% sales tax?
  4. I counted 146 tables at the food court while I waited for my folks to finish eating. There are 110 four person tables, 25 six person tables and 11 two person tables. How many can fit into the food court at one time?
  5. Our first stop was the bookstore. We bought six books for a total of $37.42. Mom has a discount card you can use when you buy four or more books. She saves 15% off of the total price, before the 6% sales tax. How much money did she save?
  6. Our next stop was the shoe store. Mom bought shoes for work for $42.99 and a pair of tennis shoes for $39.95. She bought me shoes for basketball for $63.99. How much did she spend altogether?
  7. The music store was right next door to the shoe store, so we ended up there next. They were having a sale: Buy one CD – get a second 50% off. Dad bought four CDs at $17.59 each. How much did he spend with a 6% sales tax?
  8. My brother and I headed to the arcade while Mom made Dad go look at dresses with her. While there, my brother and I played 17 video games. 12 were $.50 each, three were $.25 each and two were $1.25 each. How much did we spend in the arcade? How many quarters is that?
  9. Everybody was ready for a snack at this point so we stopped at the pretzel stand. The pretzels were $7.26 for 1/2 dozen. How much did each pretzel cost?
  10. In the clothing store my mom bought me an awesome new shirt for $24.99 and my brother a pair of jeans for $32.49. The shirt was 25% off and the jeans were 30% off. How much did my mom have to spend?
  11. While we waited for Mom to finish at the drug store, I took a look in the mall fountain. I counted 17 quarters, 12 dimes, 36 nickels and 81 pennies. How much money was in the fountain?
  12. After we were through shopping, we went to the movie theater at the mall. Tickets were $6.75 for adults and $3.25 for children like my brother and me. If we each had medium popcorn for $1.25 each and a small cola for $1.00 each, how much did going to the movies cost for our family?

We were all tired when we got home, but we had a great time. I can't wait to go back!
