Slavery abolished
Day of celebration for the end of slavery in the United States. President Lincoln freed all slaves on January 1, 1863. The proclamation only affected the states fighting the federal government. It wasn't until December 18, 1865, when the 13th Amendment was passed, that slavery was abolished in the United States.
