Autumn Equinox Activities

Autumn Equinox
Science On September 22, 2008; 11:44:18 A.M. EDT, autumn begins. Have students research weather sources as to the true meaning of that date and time. Go to en.wikipedia.org for an online source. Assign different groups to researching different seasons. Have each group develop explanations and constellation or solar maps to include in one larger book about the seasons.

Awesome Autumn!
Pumpkins, apples, and leaves ... It's Fall! As the leaves change color and the air gets chilly; pumpkins get large enough to carve (and eat!); and apples appear in mass quantities, Education World "falls" back on some favorite teaching ideas for the Autumnal Equinox.

Experiment: Colors in the Leaves
In this experiment, elementary students will use chromatography to examine the many colors in tree leaves that appear green.

A Reason for the Season
Turn your students into a Season Sleuth! Using this lesson they will learn the long and short of the changing of the seasons, then they can test their knowledge with the cosmic map.
