Today's Classroom Activities :

Bulletin Board Fun

Summer Magic
Language Arts Make a summer bulletin board with sand, sun, surf, mountains, trees, etc. Give students colored construction paper on which to write descriptive words that apply to the vacations they had this summer. As students put up their descriptive words, have them talk about why that's the best word to describe their vacations.

Classroom Stars
Science/Art Cover a bulletin board with black paper to represent the night sky. Have students make paper stars to use in building the constellations they see in the night sky. Align the bulletin board and label what would be true north, south, east and west as it looks when lying flat on the ground in your area. Go to www.go-astronomy.com for alignment assistance.

Reading Raindrops
Reading This month, each time you read a book aloud, write the title in a large raindrop. Place the raindrops on a bulletin board in alphabetical order.

Fall Leaf Rainbow
Art Collect an assortment of colorful fall leaves. Make a game of sorting the colors and sizes. On the bulletin board, create a fall rainbow by attaching arched rows of colored leaves. Use remaining leaves to make a border.

Story Bricks
Reading Make a "brick wall" bulletin board. Give students red construction paper and a pattern for the bricks. Have each student make at least one brick and write on it an element from a story the class has just read. Sequence the bricks from the bottom up to symbolize how a story grows. Join the bricks with white construction paper "mortar."
