Today's Classroom Activities :

Creating a Special Greeting

Holiday Cards
Writing/Art/Computer Skills Take a digital photo of each of your students. Print it on the cover of a greeting card. Have the students dictate or write a message. Use math and art skills to design and complete a patterned border on the cover as well as the inside of the card.

Using Greeting Cards to Motivate Students and Enhance Literacy Skills
This lesson, which is most appropriate for first- and second-grade students, focuses on using greeting cards as a unit of study. You can use the study of greeting cards to build motivation to read and write, practice reading fluency, and attend to print concepts. This experience allows students to study the crafting techniques authors use when they create greeting cards. After exploring various greeting cards, students have the opportunity to create greeting cards and share them with other students.

Creating Holiday Cards
This lesson incorporates painting and word processing software to create a card. Students will create original art work, insert it into a document, and print it. This can be done in a classroom or a lab setting with any age from second to fifth grade.

Holiday Card Grammar
Use a variety of holiday cards representing the multicultural makeup of your students or the world to teach the parts of speech. Students follow up by writing new greetings for the cards.
