Everyday Poetry
Reading/Writing Collect used greeting cards. Divide them by types of poetry and discuss if the poetry styles vary depending on the sentiment of the card. Send students to a cooperating card shop to undertake the same kind of research. Then have them each write a poem for use on a greeting card.
A Celebration of Words teaches that poetry can lead children to a love of language – and help them build literacy skills as well.
Teach your students the basics of poetry and watch their writing skills (and creativity) soar with A Matter of Meter by David L. Harrison.
Writing Acrostics can be an easy way to get your students interested in reading and writing poetry.
