Today's Classroom Activities :

Experiencing Winter

Winter Field Trips
Social Studies You can take your students to a museum without ever leaving your school! Visit the Long Island Children's Museum at www.licm.org and also check out the Association of Children's Museums at www.childrensmuseums.org for links to other museums your class can visit online.

On the first day of winter, ask your students: "What is the weather today?" Compare it to the weather on this day last year, last decade. Compare your weather to three other cities in the world, visit weather.gov to research the information and then have you students graph the results.

Take a World Tour
The National Zoo has animals from all over the world. You can take a virtual tour around the world on the Zoo's website. As you travel, try to answer the questions for each continent. Photos of the animals and answers can be found on this website. Feel free to take the scenic route by visiting other pages and learning more.

A Week of Winter Weather
Through a week long of activities, children investigate aspects of winter weather, such as temperature and wind. Children familiarize themselves with weather-related words.

Snowy Winter Weather
Students can experiment with painting techniques while creating a unique snow scene.
