Today's Classroom Activities :

Geometry, Shapes, and Designs

geometric shapes

Turn-Around Designs
Math/Art During your geometry unit give each student a large sheet of white paper and a geometric shape. Instruct them to trace that shape and then turn, flip and slide it while continuing to trace. Color in the shape created and try to determine one another's original shape.

Geometry Gone 3-D
Math Use mini marshmallows and thin pretzels (or toothpicks) to make cubes, rectangular solids and pyramids as an introduction to, or reinforcement of, geometric shapes. Round and oval shapes can be made with chenille sticks, and a combination of craft sticks and chenille can be used to make cylinders. See what other objects your students can come up with to "show shapes."

Three-Dimensional Shapes
In this activity, students will identify shapes that architects use to build houses. Students will then explore these shapes by building a model of their "dream" home.

Mandala Geometry
Student can combine geometric designs while honoring the entire universe in this lesson! They will discover how colors and shapes have meaning in traditional mandala art forms.

Cover the Triangle
Students use specific shapes to fill in the area of a certain size triangle. They determine how many ways this can be done. Problem solving, logical reasoning and visual discrimination are skills used to solve the problem.

Fun With Shapes
Students learn the names of shapes and their qualities.
