Today's Classroom Activities :

Grammar and Sentence Structure

Grammar Bowl
English Select two teams of three students to play a "bowl" game. For each team's turn, place a sentence on the overhead projector. The team can conference for two minutes, and then the spokesperson of the team identifies all parts of the sentences. Award one point for each correct identification and subtract one point for each error.

Verb-Adverb Charades
Students will silently act out a variety of verbs and adverbs.

Sentence Clubhouse
In this online activity students review types of sentences. They also practice capital letters and punctuation.

Sentence Quest: Using Parts of Speech to Write Descriptive Sentences
This multi-session activity uses students’ speaking vocabularies to help them learn about complete sentences. Students first participate in a whole-group activity to create lists of nouns, verbs, and adjectives, then write selected words on color-coded index cards. They work with the word cards to learn the essential criteria for complete sentences. Using this criteria, they collaborate in groups to create, write, and share complete, descriptive sentences. Finally, they use additional descriptive words and phrases to create complex complete sentences, which are written on adding machine tape, illustrated, and shared with the class.
