Today's Classroom Activities :
Learning About Clocks
Clocks Alive
Math/Art Create clock faces out of paper plates. Use sticker digits, or trace or freehand draw numbers. One group of students can make a clock that shows the time at which you go to recess, another can create one for art time, music, gym, lunch, etc. Provide stickers or have the group draw appropriate decorations on each clock. Display them in the correct sequence of the day around the room. Watch and see how often the students compare their "clocks" with the actual one on the wall.
Teaching Day-by-Day: Time Out for Time
How time flies! Here are some great time-related activities to help you keep the rest of the year interesting and focused on the good times to be had this month.
Living Clocks
Math Read the following poem to the children, then have them stand straight and tall like clocks as you call out various times. Help the children to position their arms to depict the time you have called out.
I'm A Clock
by Martin Shaw
It's fun to play that I'm a clock,
And move my arms that way,
It's fun to play that I'm a clock,
To learn the times of day,
Straight up, straight down, arms side to side,
Then 'round and 'round they go,
And not before too very long,
It's telling time I'll know.
