Today's Classroom Activities :

Moon Phases

Earth and different versions of the Moon

Moon Tracking
Science/Art Check the phase of the moon in the daily newspaper and set up a chart for students to observe and record the changing of the moon. Provide art supplies that can be used to create the cycles of the moon. Allow for differing variations by encouraging students to include some part of their local environment in the drawings such as trees or tall buildings that are in sight when the moon is being observed. Record documentation for each sighting of the moon.

Once in a Blue Moon
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the moon's features by creating an art/writing project about the moon.

Phases of the Moon
By engaging students in a variety of activities targeting different learning styles (kinesthetic, visual, and technological), students will become familiar with the phases of the moon, and will be able to explain the reasons for the lunar phases depending on the orientation of the sun, moon, and Earth.

Moon Munching
Have the students bite out the phases of the moon using Nilla Wafer cookies and keep records of the phases of the moon in order by tracing the cookie pattern.
