Today's Classroom Activities :
Passport to Travel
Passport Privileges
Research/Social Studies Passports have been used for centuries to insure safe passage for citizens of one country or tribe through another. Research the passports that were particular wooden carvings of African tribes. Compare these with passports of today. How have passports changed? How are they the same? Work with another class and have each class design a passport to allow students to pass from one class to the other.
Passport to Stories Around the World
Students read six tales—one from each of six continents and fill out a passport as they read. Student work sheet provided.
Passports: Crossing Cultural Borders
In this activity, students in grades 2-12 will identify where they (or their families) come from on a map. Based on the countries where they and their classmates are from, they will create a list of places to "visit" and receive a passport to help them record where they have been and what they have learned.
A Trip to the Homeland
After discovering where their ancestors and cultural traditions have come from, students will use resource books and the Internet to research a country from their heritage. After all of their research is complete, they will take an imaginary trip to that country, using what they have learned to write a travel log. Students will also create passports that help serve as a self-assessment tool.
