Today's Classroom Activities :
Patterns and Sorting
Primary Grades

Balls Galore
Math Provide a selection of sports- ball symbols. Ask your students to sort them according to types initially, then arrange them in a pattern for another student to continue.
Sorting in math
In this lesson, the students will develop the skills to examine a group of objects and determine possible ways to categorize them, how to analyze and classify data in different ways by allowing them to sort them into groups. Students will also be able to distinguish similarities and differences between objects, learn how to draw a bar graph using the data they found from sorting their show-n-tell items, and finally be able to arrange objects from largest to smallest.
Seed Sort
Students will examine seeds for similarities and differences.
Word Sorts for Beginning and Struggling Readers
This series of lessons provides a framework for introducing students to short-vowel word families. Focusing first on the a family, students work together and individually to learn the word families –at, –an, –ap, and –ack. Teacher modeling is used to introduce the word sort, inviting students to compare, contrast, and reflect on these four word families. Students then work with a partner to practice sorting and reading words with increased speed and accuracy.
