Pictograph Lessons

Sticker Pictographs
Math Provide each student with graph paper and a variety of pre-counted stickers. Model a sticker pictograph, then help the students each make his or her own graph.

Apple Pictographs
Using data from a survey, students will complete and analyze an apple pictograph. Students will write invitations to an "Apple Party."

Pictographs
Using spreadsheet software, students will create a pictograph to display the results of a classroom poll. Students will complete the pictograph with appropriate labels, key, and graphics. Students will then analyze the data collected.

What's in a Name?
Students create pictographs and answer questions about the data set.

Creating Stories Using Pictographs
Students will be able to demonstrate the Native Americans use of pictographs by creating a clay pot story of their own with 95% accuracy. Students will also be able to identify at least three different ways to learn about culture.

Plains Indians Pictographs
Students learn about the Native American tradition of decorating tipis with stories written in pictographs. The class designs their own pictograph stories, using scraps of brown paper to represent buffalo hide.
