Today's Classroom Activities :

Sea Zones

Sea zones
The ocean is divided into three areas called zones. From top to bottom, they are called the sunlit, the twilight and the midnight. Investigate how far each zone extends and which creatures live there. Discuss how each zone might have gotten its name.

Lighting Up the Sea
Students will explore the reasons for bioluminescence by conducting a simulation and viewing pictures of bioluminescent marine animals on the Web. They will conclude by pretending to be deep sea divers and writing journal entries about their impressions of a bioluminescent animal they have encountered.

Cayman Island Twilight Zone Expedition
Educators and scientists working with NOAA developed a series of lesson plans for students in Grades 5 - 12 that are specifically tied to the science behind the Cayman Island Twilight Zone Expedition. These lesson plans focus on cutting-edge ocean exploration and research using state-of-the-art technologies.

Ocean Zones Web Quest
Using this lesson your students portray a scuba diver who is about to start upon an exciting adventure to explore the depths of the Ocean and the different animals that live there. They will be "EXPLORING THE DEEP" and learning about the different zones of the ocean along with the variety of life that inhabit each zone. They will also discover some strange and beautiful animals that live there.
