Snacks and Treats

Super Snacks
Nutrition Have student brainstorm their favorite fruit and vegetable snack ideas. Offer suggestions about integrating the five produce colors (blue/purple, red, yellow/orange, white and green) and at least five servings of vegetables and fruits a day. Students can visit www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org for inspiration. Compile their ideas into a class booklet that includes photos, drawings and recipes. Make the booklet available to other classes.

What's a Snack? Lesson Idea
Using this lesson students will learn that eating a variety of foods keeps us healthy.

Identifying oily foods: Discovering healthy snacks
Students will learn to differentiate between oily and non-oily foods, that non-oily foods are healthier, and how to make healthy food choices.

Good Snack, Smart Snack
After completing a unit of study on nutrition, students work as company managers to design and advertise healthy snacks to sell. A list of ingredients will be listed for each snack and an advertisement will be designed to promote their product.
