Today's Classroom Activities :
The Thanksgiving Meal

Thanksgiving Proportions
Health Brainstorm a list of the foods eaten at Thanksgiving meals. Ask your students to put the foods in the correct categories of the USDA Food Pyramid (www.mypyramid.gov). Are any categories overloaded?
Thanksgiving Dinner, Then and Now
Teach students about the foods that were available at the first Thanksgiving and compare to some of the foods that Americans enjoy at Thanksgiving dinner today. After doing the history about these foods, let the students enjoy creating a Thanksgiving plate and separating into food groups.
Thanksgiving Feast (Read the Charts)
Students will read a chart to learn more about where the foods in their family's Thanksgiving feast were grown.
Indian Corn
Children will demonstrate that a combination of foods are more healthy and that the foods we eat today are similar to the foods the Pilgrims ate by categorizing the foods on poster board paper.
