Today's Classroom Activities :
Transportation ABCs
Do you know your transportation ABCs? Create a class alphabet big book. For each letter's page include the types of vehicles (from horse-drawn carriages to the Space Shuttle) that start with that letter. Illustrate the book with pictures you draw or cut from magazines.
Have students work in small groups to research the transportation options between your community and a selected vacation destination like the mountains, the beach or a distant city. Which option is fastest? Cheapest? Most scenic?
Trade And Transportation In The United States
Students will imagine what it would be like to operate a plane, train, or truck along a trade route across the United States. They will also look at maps of major U.S. transportation networks and will explain how specific products might get from one place to another.
How I Get To School
Print a short book on how children get to school (for early readers). The student fills in the name of the mode of transport and colors the picture. The ways of getting to school include going by bicycle, by car, walking, by boat, by train, by horse, by van, and a fun way of getting to school.
