Today's Classroom Activities :
Visual and Auditory Lesson Plans
Simon Says Color Me
Auditory/Visual Discrimination Give all the children the same picture and the same colors of crayons. Play "Simon Says" using the crayon colors and various portions of the picture. When a player makes a mistake he or she is is out until the next round.
Play with Words: Rhyme & Verse
In this lesson, students will use their senses to experience poetry. Students will listen to poems and rhymes, clap out syllables, and sing along with familiar tunes. They will also use puppets and crafts to help recall and retell favorite poems. Finally, students will experience the joy of crafting their own original poems.
Exploring patterns you can feel and hear
The following lesson will enable students to develop tactile and auditory patterns. As students observe, analyze, and make predictions about patterns they will enhance their problem-solving and reasoning skills.
Cardinal Numbers, Graphing Names
The students will develop visual discrimination and communication skills by comparing and contrasting various aspects of differing names in the classroom.
Using Picture Books to Explore Identity, Stereotyping, and Discrimination
In this lesson, three picture books depict characters that are different from others in their communities. Each book deals with questions of identity, stereotyping, and discrimination. Sixth- through eighth-grade students are challenged to analyze these concepts through class discussions and writing. In addition to filling out a chart identifying how these three concepts are dealt with in each book, students summarize each story to analyze basic elements. After students understand some of the causes of discrimination, they discuss concrete actions they can take to stop it.
